The Best Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo

The Q Revo is an excellent option if you're looking to buy a mid-range mop and robot vacuum. It provides a fantastic mopping experience, but doesn't have the features that make up its more expensive sibling.

In the course of testing, it was able to handle dry oats and dust on carpets of medium pile as well as pet hair on hard flooring. It does not use LIDAR however, like cheaper models do, to locate your home.

1. IRobot Roomba S9+

The iRobot Roomba S9+ is one of the top-rated robot vacuums. It is a powerful cleaner and plenty of features, including an automatic dirt bin built into its charging base. The robot also learns your habits of cleaning and suggest schedules that are automatic to ensure you have a hands-free experience.

The iRobot Home App guides you through the process of setting up. Once everything is connected, you can begin the automatic cleaning functions at the push of a button. You can select a general clean that prioritizes getting rid of larger pieces of debris such as rice and cereal or two detailed maps of your space to ensure that your entire home gets a proper look.

This robot vacuum is effective on both floors with no carpet and carpets with a low pile. It sucks up large items and doesn't lose suction as rapidly as some others do and can pick up pet hair with ease. It has a difficult time with plush or high-pile carpet, but iRobot says it will improve with the next models.

The S9+ features a new design from iRobot that is focused on enhancing corner and edge cleaning. It's the first Roomba that has an open-fronted, flat-fronted design. The company hopes this will allow it to fit into the furniture and walls. It's a significant improvement over hockey puck-shaped robovacs that are widely used however we found it only marginally better than circular models.

iRobot also claims that the S9+ has a superior filter system that prevents microscopic dust particles and allergens from recirculating in your home. We like the claim but not enough to justify a premium price.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of sensors to store the layout of your home and vSLAM to map your interior of your home. It can then clean your entire house efficiently by avoiding obstacles such as stairs and other barriers. The iRobot Home App allows you to schedule cleaning times and set virtual boundaries to ensure that the robot is aware of the areas that require attention.

Its vacuum settings are as effective as those on higher-end models, and its mopping system is even better. Its spinning pads do a better job of scrubbing your floors than a stationary vibration pad.

The only downside is that it does not have an additional rubber brush for deeper cleaning, but it's a small price to pay if you are looking for one of the top robots available. The dust tank of the robo-vac is bigger than most of its competitors and filling it takes just two or three cycles, even when you've got the most dirt.

As for the mopping device, I was amazed with its ability to remove the tough dirt off my floors. The two mopping modes that it has that are less aggressive than the high-powered ones, generate very little noise, which allows you to work or even watch television without interruption. It will gently hit furniture or walls and then move away whenever it comes across one.

The Q Revo is unique in that it runs almost autonomously, with little user involvement. The robo-vac has a multifunction dock that can automatically transfer physical trash to the bin hidden from view and also cleans and drys the mop pads and refills its clean water tank. The app will only inform you if something is wrong like low water levels or a canceled vacuuming session due to a full bin.

You can also create and merge actual rooms to customize the way that Q Revo manages your home. That's a handy feature to have if you have several areas of your home with different floor materials or if there's items that need to be removed regularly, such as toys, clothes, and books. The robo-vac is also very efficient and was one of the top performers in my tests, picking up debris from carpets as well as hardwoods in its first run. It can also clean up spills that are wet, though I recommend wiping them dry with a damp cloth prior to sending the robot into.
